Congenital Heart Disease

Dion Pepelassis

Dion Pepelassis, MD. Cardiac U/S is the major noninvasive imaging modality and an important diagnostic tool in the clinical decision making process. Cardiac U/S images the heart from multiple viewing orientations by applying different viewing protocols. Basic cardiac anatomy correlates with the revealed echocardiographic images. Knowledge and under- standing of cardiac gross anatomy, and distorted from the normal acquired echocardiographic images, can provide adequate information about a suspected major cardiac abnormality. However, and in order to correlate cardiac anatomy with echocardiographic views, comprehensive knowledge of certain facts such as the location and orientation of the heart within the body, as well as the location and arrangements of the cardiac chambers and valves to each other have to be appreciated.
